From Space Science to the Emerging Space Economy: A Personal Journey

Ventura County Chapter virtual meeting on August 26

Please join us online Thursday, August 26, 8:00–9:00am PST when Dr. Leon Alkalai (CEO Mandala Space Ventures, LLC, CEO, Continuum Space Systems, Inc., GP, Explorer 1 Venture Fund) will present a personal journey from a career dedicated to robotic space exploration and space science at NASA’s JPL, into the exciting world of space entrepreneurship.

We are in the early stages of a lasting revolution in space commercialization and democratization. Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) is the immediate and obvious destination for space commercialization, as evidenced by the plethora of applications.

There is also plenty of opportunities in the emerging Lunar and cis-Lunar economy including in-situ resource prospecting and utilization, human habitation, and long-term utilization of the Moon for both research and economic development.

What is very encouraging is that there is a growing ecosystem of entrepreneurs launching new start-ups that are disrupting the existing marketplace and creating new opportunities for all interested in space. Furthermore, the scale of venture capital fueling innovation and entrepreneurship into the marketplace is stimulating growth and exuberance at the same time. This new generation of space pioneers is both excited about making a difference in space and improving the quality of living on planet Earth for all of humanity.

Since the Ventura County Chapter is new, the meeting is free for all. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfvcaug21.eventbrite.com.

“The Future of the Wide Body”

Virtual Joint Meeting of the Santa Clarita Valley and San Fernando Valley Chapters on July 15, 2021

Some analysts say it will be a very long time (if ever) before the wide body returns to its production volume of the past. The airlines have an increased interest in using single aisle aircraft for even international flights. Yet at least one major airline has said that it still considers wide bodies a major part of its fleet.

Please join us online on Thursday, July 15, 8:00–9:00am pacific time, when Jens Flottau, Executive Editor, Commercial Aviation, Aviation Week Network, will give us his view on the likely future of the wide body.

The meeting is free for members and $25 for non-members. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to https://adfscvjul21.eventbrite.com/.

“Aviation and Defense Markets in the Aftermath of COVID-19”

Ventura County Chapter virtual meeting on June 11

The COVID-19 pandemic effect on the world aviation market has been severe. Some segments have suffered more than others, but none have been untouched by the economic realizations of business as anything but normal. As we begin to shift our thinking to the future and an understanding what business will look like as we come out of COVID-19, there is no better source to turn to than Richard Aboulafia of Teal Group for an understanding of the aviation and defense markets in the aftermath.

Please join us online Friday, June 11, 8:00–9:00am PST when Richard will join us for a discussion of how key aviation market segments will be affected by the pandemic, and by the economic downturn. We’ll look at key indicators to watch, including the big variables that could impact the timing of the recovery. There will also be a discussion of key programs, and winners and losers in the context of a changing market.

Teal Group is an aerospace and defense market analysis firm based in Fairfax, Virginia, and provides competitive intelligence to industry and government worldwide. If you want insights on what to expect from the aviation and defense markets for the balance of 2021 and beyond, be sure to join us for this discussion. “Post-COVID Aerospace Market Outlook”

Los Angeles Chapter virtual meeting on May 19

The COVID pandemic in 2020 triggered a significant downturn in air traffic, aircraft production rates, and MRO. However, as the aerospace industry turned the calendar to 2021, our outlook also turned – beyond relief that 2020 was over, there seemed to be optimism as well. As the year progresses, vaccine rollouts and less restrictive COVID measures are building an expectation that things are returning to normal.

How, when, and in what ways will this normal ultimately spill over into aviation:
• How are air travel and aerospace production recovering?
• Is the industry recovering as we’d thought?
• What is the outlook for 2021?
• When will production rates return to 2019 levels?
• What challenges will the industry face in the market recovery? (e.g., supply chain capability)

Please join us online on Wednesday, May 19, 8:00–9:00am Pacific Time when Peter Zimm, Principal, and Cliff Collier, Principal, of Charles Edwards Management Consulting will address these topics from both market and supply chain viewpoints in an informative and interactive session that will provide the audience with new perspective on the state of the industry recovery.

The meeting is free for members and $25 for non-members For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to https://adflamay21.eventbrite.com/.

“The 10P’s of Manufacturing Services Marketing”

National Online Forum webinar on 8-9:00am Pacific Thursday, April 29, 2021

Modern marketing mix stems from the concept of the Four P’s of Marketing created by E. J. McCarthy (1960) in his book Basic Marketing – Managerial Approach. The concepts are the basic building blocks of marketing strategy utilized around the world. In the last 20 years, different authors have altered or built upon McCarthy’s work, but the four “P’s” (Price, Product, Place, and Promotion) have remained the mainstay of modern marketing theory.

In this presentation, the original four “P’s” remain the basic building blocks of marketing strategy. They are augmented by six new “P’s” to amplify the impact of today’s complex market approaches. The 2021 Marketing Mix includes the original Price, Product, Place, Promotion, and adds Personal, Presence, Persistence, Perceptions, Pathology, and Proportionality.

Please join us at 8:00-9:00am Pacific Time on Thursday, April 29, 2021 when Frank Nichols, Founder, CEO, and President at Silicon Forest Electronics will speak to all ten elements and give ideas and guidance around creating a successful marketing mix.

The meeting is free for members and $25 for non-members For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to https://adfnofapr21.eventbrite.com.
