Tired Business woman at the office

Meeting location: Spencer Fane LLP
2415 E Camelback Road, Suite 600, Phoenix, AZ 85016-4288
Meeting Date: Thursday, October 10
Meeting Time:
Networking: 5:30-6:00pm
Meeting: 6:00-7:30pm

Please join us in Phoenix, AZ on Thursday, October 10, 6:00-7:30pm (networking and refreshments at 5:30pm), when Liz Illg, Owner, Puff & Fluff Grooming and Pet Sitting, will speak to creating efficiencies within one’s workspace by creating easy-to-use systems and strategies. She will talk about documenting and streamlining processes so that everyone’s time is used in the best way possible. The goal of this presentation is for the audience to leave with a more in-depth understanding of how to keep their businesses operating smoothly by spending less time on day-to-day tasks and more time focusing on the bigger picture, ultimately doing what they love!

Small business owners deal with challenges each and every day and, if they’re feeling particularly stuck or overwhelmed, they should attend this presentation. As someone with experience in building a dream business, Liz has felt each and every emotion along the way- swamped with endless tasks, she had plenty moments of self-doubt. The real problem was that she hadn’t built the necessary foundation for her business to stand on. That’s when she decided to take matters into her own hands and build systems and processes from scratch. Her goal in this presentation is to inspire attendees to do the same!

The meeting is free for A&D Forum, AZTC, and Americans Aerospace Cluster members ($30 for non-members until October 3, $40 thereafter). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to http://adfazoct19.eventbrite.com.

“Professional Paranoia: Leadership & Management Lessons from the USS Zumwalt”

San Diego Chapter meeting on September 24

Meeting location: Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP
12275 El Camino Real, Suite 200, San Diego, CA 92130-2006
Meeting Date: Tuesday, September 24
Meeting Time:
Registration and Networking: 5:30 p.m.
Meeting: 6:15-7:45 p.m.

Captain Scott Tait served as Commanding Officer of the USS Zumwalt from 2016 to November 2018. During his tour, the ship transitioned from a pre-commissioned unit at the building yard in Bath, Maine to an operational ship in the Pacific Fleet.

Zumwalt is arguably the most technologically ambitious project undertaken by any Navy since HMS Dreadnought was launched by the British in 1906. The ship incorporates a host of new capabilities, operating concepts and a drastically reduced manpower model. Its radical and innovative design introduced significant tension with the Navy’s existing framework of training, certifying, organizing and operating.

Please join us in San Diego on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 (registration & networking: 5:30-6:15pm, meeting: 6:15-7:45pm PST), when Captain Tait will provide a brief overview of the Zumwalt’s background and capabilities, then discuss lessons in leadership and management gained from bringing a small, diverse crew and a unique, technologically advanced platform into a Fleet dominated by legacy processes. The tools and insights that helped him succeed should be of benefit to anybody leading a fast moving, tech-centric organization in today’s dynamic business world.

He will also discuss how changes in the international environment are changing the nature of business competition.

The meeting is free for members & $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until September 17). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsdsep19.eventbrite.com.

Tour of the James Webb Space Telescope

Joint Meeting of South Bay & Los Angeles Chapters at
Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Space Park, Redondo Beach
on September 11

Agenda

9:00am Badging in Building E2 Lobby & Networking
9:15am Introductions and Announcements
9:30am James Webb Space Telescope Tour
10:30am Turn in badges and Adjourn

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the most ambitious and technologically advanced assembly of a space telescope is currently under way at the Northrop Grumman Space Park in Redondo Beach. While the JWST is still on earth, come join us to tour the assembly bay of this scientific marvel. The JWST is being developed through a collaboration of NASA, Northrop Grumman and other foreign Space Agencies. With an estimated overall cost greater than 10 billion dollars, this will more than likely be the most expensive assembly that you will ever see.

The Webb Telescope is the successor to the Hubble Telescope. Currently, the Hubble Telescope travels 354 miles from earth and orbits around the earth. The JWST will travel to a distance just under 1 million miles from earth and will orbit around the sun. It will take the Webb around half a year to travel to its end point. Because the Webb Telescope will end up so far into space with its advanced infrared telescope, it will be able to view galaxies never before seen.

The current planned launch date for the Webb Telescope is March 2021.

The meeting is free for A&D Forum Individual Members and Corporate Members (exclusive access until August 22), and $35 for Non-members (after August 22). Registration closes at 2pm, Thursday, August 30. Limited to 30 attendees
Must be a US citizen Register to attend at: https://adfsbsep19.eventbrite.com.

Los Angeles Chapter meeting on August 16

NOTE: Building security policy. All attendees must register no less than 24 hours in advance of the meeting or they will not be allowed entrance to the building.

Beginning with Jack Northrop’s early pioneering collaborations with the Loughead (Lockheed) Brothers, Northrop Grumman has a storied legacy. The company is one of the preeminent players throughout Los Angeles’ aviation history and remains an aerospace leader in Southern California today. In 2018, supplier contracts were valued at over $3.4 billion in Los Angeles County alone. 50% of Northrop Grumman’s suppliers in Southern California are Small, Small Disadvantaged, Women-Owned Small, Hub Zone, or Small Disadvantaged Veteran-Owned Small Businesses.

Doing business with Northrop Grumman requires a basic knowledge of the company as well as an understanding of how to engage with Northrop’s supplier management system.

Please join us in Century City on Friday, August 16, 7:30–9:00am (breakfast and networking at 7:00am), when Arnie Streland, Senior Director, Strategy and Business Development, Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems, Space Systems Group, will provide you with an overview of Northrop Grumman and it’s major organizations and products, giving you the background and understanding you need to do business with the company. Emphasis will be placed on Northrop Grumman activities in Southern California, including main locations and projects.

Most importantly, you will be provided with valuable information on how to contact and work with the Northrop Grumman supply chain process to gain access to upcoming supplier opportunities. If you’re serious about building a relationship with one of the premiere aerospace companies, you do not want to miss this meeting.

The meeting is free for members and $30 for non-members ($40 after August 16). Guests may attend two chapter meetings for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to https://adflaaug19.eventbrite.com.
