“Exploring the Back of Your Business Card”

“Exploring the Back of Your Business Card”

Los Angeles Chapter meeting on January 20

Carl Terzian, who was one of if not the leading networker in Los Angeles, distinguished between the mental concepts of the front and the back of your business card, both being important. The front of the card is your professional information – your organization, your role, your products and services, and contact information. The back of the card is about you personally, your family, your interests, your community involvement, what you have accomplished about which you are proud, etc. In summary, the back of the card expresses your personal uniqueness. Given that people do business with those whom they know, like, and trust, the back of the card is critical to successful business development, whether you are a sole practitioner or a salesperson for a large A&D company.

The main part of the meeting will be exploring the back-of-your-card and integrating it into your business development. Among other questions, you will have an opportunity to explore the following:
• What is the back of your card and how do you effectively share it?
• What is the event/ experience that spurred your interest in A&D and how you were able to match that interest with your professional career choice(s)?
• How might you incorporate the back of your card to improve your business development?

Please join us in Los Angeles on Friday, January 20, 2017, 7:30am – 9:00am PDT (networking at 7:00am), when Anne will then review the main points of her May 2016 presentation, and then will discuss how to more effectively engage our Lizard Brain when we share our elevator speech. She will give tips on how to prepare the best introduction. There will also be short break out groups to practice what Anne shares.

Anne is one of the leading consultants on how to improve your marketing and selling communications. This meeting, as with Anne’s presentation at the May 2016 LA Chapter meeting, can make a profound difference in your business development results.

The meeting is free for members & $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until January 13). For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adflajan17.eventbrite.com.

“Where Science Gets Down to Business”

“Where Science Gets Down to Business”cnc-training

Los Angeles Chapter meeting on November 18

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industries are critical drivers of economic growth. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that seven of the ten fastest growing occupations are in STEM fields, and California is expected to have over 1 million STEM jobs within five years, far more than any other state. Our State’s and indeed our Nation’s future economic success is closely tied to innovation, invention, intellectual property development, entrepreneurialism and preparing a workforce with the talent, creativity, skills and knowledge to innovate in STEM fields.

Kelly Space & Technology, Inc. (KST) is a privately-held company established in 1993 serving the aerospace, defense and technology industry sectors, based in San Bernardino, California at the former Norton Air Force Base. KST operates the Aerospace Research & Development Center (ARDC) as a center of technical excellence to develop, test and deploy critical technologies that provide advancements in defense, aviation and space. KST’s business approach is to identify and deploy revenue-generating, commercial applications of space-related technology while creating financially-viable and sustainable lines of business.

Please join us in Los Angeles on Friday, November 18, 2016, 7:30am – 9:00am PDT (networking at 7:00am), when Michael J. Gallo, President & CEO, Kelly Space & Technology, will describe how, concurrent with KST’s project development and testing activities, KST and its 501(c)(3) non-profit, Technical Employment Training, Inc., has implemented business-education partnerships to provide our youth and adult students with relevant, exciting, hands-on instruction and training that captures student interest, motivates life-long learning and produces a technologically literate workforce. KST believe this investment in building the capacity of our residents to effectively compete for demand occupations within the various STEM related industries will not only help build our business, but transform our region through educational attainment, workforce investment and economic development.

“The Air Force Space Command’s Space Enterprise Vision (SEV)”

“The Air Force Space Command’s Space Enterprise Vision (SEV)”sev

Los Angeles Chapter meeting on October 21

There is a concern that the current space enterprise is not resilient enough to be successful in a conflict that extends to space, that current stove piped PoR are unable to survive a war in space with near peer adversaries. It was recognized that we need a future enterprise that can deter, and if necessary prevail, in a war that extends into space.

In August 2015 the Air Force Space Command Commander, Gen Hyten, commissioned a study aimed at charting a new vision for the Air Force space enterprise. Among other findings, the study concluded that “Most US military space systems are not designed with threats in mind and instead are built for long-term functionality and efficiency with systems operating for decades”

Please join us in Los Angeles on Friday, October 21, 2016, 7:30am – 9:00am PDT (networking at 7:00am), when Thomas A. Fitzgerald, Director of Engineering, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base will talk about SEV Key new focus areas:
• Pursuit of better forecasting, detection and attribution of attacks in a more timely manner
• Movement from just Space Situational Awareness and tracking objects in space to having appropriate defensive and offensive responses and converting many current blue suite tasks to commercial providers, freeing them to “warfight”

The meeting is free for A&D Forum members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until October 14). For more information and to register to attend the meeting in person or for free via the web, go to https://adflaoct16.eventbrite.com.
