“Reading Between the Lines: Leveraging the Assumptions Behind CMMC to Save Time, Money, and Your Sanity”

Joint Orange County and Santa Clarita Valley Chapter virtual meeting on March 4

Many small and mid-sized aerospace and defense (A&D) manufacturers who attempt to decipher their cybersecurity obligations under Defense Federal Regulation Supplement (DFARS) clauses and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program are left feeling like they are missing something. Unfortunately, that is true in more ways than one. Several critical dependencies, omissions, and assumptions underlie the regulations and the most recent DFARS changes have only compounded the issue.

Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity regulations are not what they seem. A closer look below the waterline reveals the lasting implications of activities like answering customer questionnaires; submitting self-assessments to the Supplier Performance Risk System (SPRS); and self-attesting to DFARS cybersecurity compliance.

Please join us on March 4, 2021, 8:00-9:00am pacific time, for an online webinar when Jacob Horne, Cybersecurity Consultant, DefCERT will address what are the most common assumptions that A&D manufacturers make about their cybersecurity obligations; their cybersecurity posture; and the resulting feasibility of passing a CMMC assessment? What assumptions are buried within DFARS and CMMC about your business and the business of A&D manufacturing in general? Taken together, how do these assumptions contribute to the most common challenges faced by A&D manufactures?

Most importantly, how can A&D manufacturers take advantage of this ambiguity to save time and money during a compliance transformation as well as set themselves up for success in a CMMC assessment?

The meeting is free for members and $25 for non-members. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to https://adfocmar21.eventbrite.com/.

Meeting Location: Virtual Meeting
Meeting Date: Thursday December 3, 2020
Meeting Time: 8:00-9:00am Pacific Time

Please join us on December 3, 2020, 8:00-9:00am pacific time, for an online webinar when Glenn McDonald, Principal, AeroDynamic Advisory will provide valuable information on the current and future state of the industry which our A&D Forum members have been requesting.

AeroDynamic Advisory will provide a detailed assessment of the current state of the aerospace and defense industries in light of COVID and also discuss anticipated recovery timeframes. This analysis will specifically focus on current and anticipated future demand for commercial aerospace and will also cover military aerospace and space. The presentation will cover passenger segments (e.g. leisure vs. business travel), region, aircraft platform (e.g. A330neo, 787), and other relevant considerations. This information can help guide companies on how to best position themselves during these turbulent times.

In advance of the webinar (whether you register or not), we encourage you to take the AeroDynamic Advisory Supply Chain Survey. By collecting this data, AeroDynamic Advisory hopes to help the industry achieve a better collective understanding of the vulnerability in the supply chain to allow all participants (including governments and industry associations) to respond effectively.

“The Private Equity Strategy for Navigating the A&D Market in 2021”

Virtual Meeting of the Orange County Chapter on October 2

Meeting Location: Virtual Meeting
Meeting Date: Friday, October 2, 2020
Meeting Time: 8:00-9:30am Pacific Time

Please join us for a collaborative, future focused panel discussion on private equity activity in 2021.

The instability of the travel economy and the challenges in valuation of businesses that support commercial aerospace will drive aggressive acquisitions.

Meanwhile, the flourishing defense industry and expansion into space lends to an optimistic outlook for aerospace businesses. As space and defense programs bolster the slow recovery of aerospace, the industry can no longer be simply defined as “Aerospace & Defense,” SPACE is inserting itself as a key player into the industry.

The strategy of choice for private equity remains: buy and build. The approach moving forward is having actual value-add, not just aggregation of liquidity.

Overhaul of leadership, branding, and capital expenditures define the pattern of private equity ownership.

To prepare for a transformative wave, our panel will confer about what private equity firms are seeking and where they see value heading into 2021. Topics will include:
• Diversification outside Boeing and embracing Airbus additionally as a new, loyal partner.
• Innovation, IP capabilities, and program ownership is the toehold to industry. Having exposure to emerging aircrafts and programs, including defense and space, will ensure profitability and sales. A robust program portfolio will drive private equity ownership.
• Conversion of cybersecurity from a lofty luxury to an emphatic requirement. Professionalizing security within your business will now be a requisite to work with the OEMs and defense primes.

Private equity is hypervigilant of risks. Help to mitigate those risks for your business through the provided insight from a panel of experts within the private equity and investment banking sectors to the aerospace, defense, and space markets.

Confirmed panelists are Ryan Boyle (Moderator) (President, BOB Search), Paul Weisbrich (Managing Director, Investment Banking Group, D.A. Davidson), Paul Teske (Co-Founder and Partner, ATL Partners), Bryan Perkins (Founder & CEO, Novaria Group), Tracy Glende (Chief Executive Officer, Valence Surface Technologies), and Christopher Celtruda (Managing Principal, Destiny Equity Partners)

The meeting is free for A&D Forum Individual and Corporate members and $25 for non-members. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfococt20.eventbrite.com.

“Thrive by Adaptation – PMA Panel (Series 2 of 3)”

“Thrive by Adaptation – PMA Panel (Series 2 of 3)”

OC Chapter meeting in Irvine on March 5

Confirmed panelists are:
• Brian Zaumeyer from Odyssey Investment Partners. Newly raised Fund VI is $3 billion
• Chris Celtruda at Kellstrom/Merex Defense. Kellstrom bundles parts, services & solutions for military legacy platforms.
• Jeff Johnston at Desser Group. Desser Group is a platform investment by Graham Partners.
Our panel of experts will discuss the PMA process, its opportunities, challenges, and the battle between OEM and PMA-holder.

Aircraft can safely perform for decades, which create an active aftermarket to ensure a continuous supply of parts and services to maintain fleet performance. This aftermarket generates huge opportunity as there is as least equal revenue from the aftermarket as from the initial sale of an aircraft. This is especially true of the Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA) process, which allows a PMA-holder to produce replacement parts for aircraft even though they are not the original manufacturer of the equipment.

OEMs have traditionally focused on the new aircraft deliveries, which has created a thriving aftermarket of alternative suppliers. As cost-cutting initiatives challenge margins on the new aircraft part deliveries, many OEMs have implemented strategic initiatives to protect and grow their own aftermarket.

Please join us in Irvine on Thursday, March 5, 7:30–9:00am for the second part of the “Thrive by Adaptation” series, where we will dive into aerospace PMA.

The meeting is free for members and $30 for non-members ($40 after February 27). Non-members may guest twice for free. Click here to register to attend the meeting.
