Meeting Date: March 17, 2020
Meeting Time: Doors open at 7am, Meeting 7:30-9:00am

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) will be a requirement for defense contractors beginning in the Fall of 2020. • Status update on the CMMC roll out: what to expect and how/when it will apply to your organization
• What is CMMC and how is it different from DFARS 7012 and NIST 800-171?
• What should you be doing now to prepare for CMMC?
• What does CMMC mean for the future of cyber compliance?

“Secure Global Supply Chains”

Meeting of the San Fernando Valley Chapter on February 18

Meeting Location: Rose, Snyder, & Jacobs
15821 Ventura Blvd., Suite 490, Encino, CA 91436
Meeting Date: February 18, 2020
Meeting Time: Doors open at 7am, Meeting 7:30-9:00am

Some of the largest corporations in the world have embraced blockchain technology as a means of improving increased traceability and transparency into their supply chains. From tracking beef, tracing car and aircraft parts to verifying luxury bags and diamonds, blockchain technology is providing companies and consumers unprecedented insight into where goods have come from and every step they took along the supply chain. This carries the further benefit of allowing corporations to identify and root out unethical practices or labor conditions; notably, Coca-Cola conducted a blockchain pilot project with the US State Department aimed at eliminating forced labor in its supply chains.

Please join us in Encino, CA, on Tuesday, February 18, 7:30am–9:00am (breakfast and networking at 7:00am), when Chief Operating Officer of the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) Mercina Tillemann will discuss how blockchain is revolutionizing global supply chains, giving consumers greater insight into what they are buying and helping companies control quality and act more ethically and responsibly.
The GBBC is the leading industry association for the blockchain technology ecosystem. Launched in Davos in 2017, the GBBC brings together innovators and thought-leaders from over 50 countries to further adoption of blockchain technology by engaging and educating regulators, business leaders, and lawmakers on the benefits and applications of this groundbreaking technology. We believe in blockchain technology’s ability to create more secure, equitable, and functional societies around the globe.

The meeting is free for members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until February 11). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsfvfeb20.eventbrite.com.

Meeting Date: January 21, 2020
Meeting Time: Doors open at 7am, Meeting 7:30-9:00am

While AM has been commercially available for over 30 years, strategies for deploying AM are not so obvious. “2019 International Paris Air Show: Impressions & Opinions”

San Fernando Valley Chapter meeting on July 16

Meeting Location: City National Bank,
15260 Ventura Blvd., 16th floor, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
Meeting Date: July 16, 2019
Meeting Time: Doors open at 7am, Meeting 7:30-9:00am

The 2019 Paris Air Show (or Le Bourget) was really all about uncertainty – the uncertainty heading into the airshow was the highest it has been in several years. All this uncertainty is driven by the state of the market, the grounding of the 737 MAX and what that means to the market, significant continued consolidation, changing dynamics, changing technology, the impact of Brexit (again) and the impact of growing defense programs.

Going into the show, there were nine key topics to watch for at the show:
• The continued grounding of the 737 MAX and when it will return to service?
• What is the health of the commercial aircraft cycle – will we see the new aircraft order bonanzas of previous shows or is the bubble ready to pop?
• New aircraft model introductions – will we see NMA or will Boeing opt for NSA, will we see the new A321 XLR, or maybe others?
• The changes in the regional aircraft market – Bombardier and Embraer exit, so what happens now with MRJ and COMAC?
• Consolidation continues – Raytheon/UTC a merger of equals, Boeing acquires EnCore, L3 merges with Harris, what’s next
• There is a growing demand for fighter aircraft because of aging fleets and higher levels of defense spending – what will the future look like?
• Electric, hybrid and eVTOL aircraft – how close to reality and who are the players?
• Urban mobility – when will we see this and who are the key players?
• How will the aviation industry address sustainability and being more “green”?

The show itself seemed to be a little more lightly attended than previous shows, reflecting the uncertainty; however the Paris Air Show always manages to be interesting. While the airshow did not provide definitive answers on all the important issues, we did have more than a few surprises.

Please join us in Sherman Oaks, CA, on Tuesday, July 16, 7:30am–9:00am (breakfast and networking at 7:00am), to hear a first-hand account from David Conrad, Director, Business Development, PTI Technologies, Inc., and to find out some possible answers to the major questions facing our industry.

The meeting is free for members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until July 9). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsfvjul19.eventbrite.com.

Tour of Bandy Manufacturing

San Fernando Valley Chapter meeting on May 21

Meeting Location: Bandy Manufacturing, 3420 N San Fernando Blvd, Burbank, CA 91510
Meeting Date: May 21
Meeting Time:
– Breakfast and Tour: 7:00-7:30am
– Meeting and Tour: 7:30-9:00am

Bandy Manufacturing was founded by Gerry W. Bandy in 1953 to provide high quality hinges for the burgeoning aircraft industry. After a succession of corporate owners that began in 1995 and ended in August 2017, the company is now, once again, privately-held after its acquisition from GKN Aerospace by JW Hill Capital. The company is building on its past entrepreneurial and customer-focused history, with the goal of creating a dynamic and forward-thinking culture.

The Company’s fleet of CNC milling machines combined with its custom hinge drilling and slotting machines allows it to make custom hinges ranging in length from 0.5 inches to 40 feet. Each year Bandy supplies more than one million hinges, access panels, structural components, door panels and assemblies to customers around the globe. Bandy supports virtually every type and class of aircraft and aerospace vehicle: whether military or commercial, civil or private.

Bandy can produce more than 1 mile (almost 6,000 feet) of extruded aluminum MS20001 hinges per day. Bandy’s customized, proprietary drilling machines can drill a 40-foot hinge pin hole while maintaining a concentricity tolerance of .005 inch. More information can be found at www.bandymanufacturing.com.

The meeting is free for members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until May 14). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsfvmay19.eventbrite.com.

“Cost & Price Analysis in Source Selection – The Total Evaluated Price”

San Fernando Valley Chapter meeting on February 19

Meeting Location: City National Bank
15260 Ventura Blvd., 16th floor, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
Meeting Date: February 19
Meeting Time: Doors open at 7am, Meeting 7:30-9:00am

Being successful in business is challenging in and of itself. Being successful in the defense industry, where the Government is the ultimate customer, comes with additional and unique challenges.

Cost-type contracts are particularly complex instruments, substantially shaped by federal regulation, and administered by a team of professionals under the cognizant contracting officer. Done right, they’re fair and useful for both sides. But done wrong, they can be catastrophic to the contractor. This presentation is designed to help contractors better understand what they need to know about pursuing such contracts.

Please join us in Sherman Oaks, CA, on Tuesday, February 19, 7:30am–9:00am, when Scott Koslow, Vice President, Valkyrie Enterprises, will discuss the Government’s approach to its pricing objective and how a contractor can position itself to win a contract worth winning. He’ll address the concept of the “Total Evaluated Price,” the nature of best value procurement versus lowest-price-technically-acceptable and cost/price evaluation considerations to account for. He’ll also discuss management’s strategic considerations when the Government selects someone else for award.

The meeting is free for members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until February 12).  Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsfvfeb19.eventbrite.com.
