“Aero Markets: The Road Back”

Ventura County Chapter virtual meeting on February 18, 2022

As the COVID-19 pandemic begins to wear off (hopefully) the world of aviation is expected to return to a level of normalcy. Some segments have suffered more than others, but none have been untouched by the social restrictions and the resulting economic slowdown. As we begin to shift our thinking to the future and an understanding what business will look like as we come out of COVID-19, there is no better source than Richard Aboulafia, Managing Director at AeroDynamic Advisory (formerly with the Teal Group) to get a broad understanding of how the aviation and defense markets will recover.

Please join us online Friday, February 18, 8:00–9:00am PST when Richard will join us for a discussion of how key aviation market segments are still being affected by the pandemic and by the economic downturn, and the way different sectors are inching towards a ‘new normal’. We will look at key indicators to watch, including the big variables that could impact the shape of the long-term recovery. There will also be a discussion of key programs, and winners and losers in the context of a changing market.

The meeting is free for members and $25 for non-members. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfvcfeb22.eventbrite.com.

“The future of flight – from electric aviation, to supersonic, suborbital and beyond”

Ventura County Chapter virtual meeting on September 30

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a new type of airplane!

New ways of flying are in the air. Advances in energy storage technologies, novel materials, fuels, and avionics, as well as the push for de-carbonization of transportation and the new commercial realities of aviation derived from COVID-19 leading to the re-alignment of general aviation, are opening the door to improved, and sometimes completely new types of aircraft.

These new developments are enabling new options for air travel. Vertical take-off and landing electric aircraft (eVTOL), that would make urban air mobility a reality – think of flying over the traffic in places like Los Angeles or New York City. The potential comeback of supersonic flight, this time with fuel-efficient and quiet designs that are economically viable and able to fly over areas with high population densities. Moreover, the successful first flights from companies such as Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin are enabling an entirely new market for space tourism.

Please join us online Thursday, September 30, 8:00–9:00am PST when Dr. Anita Sengupta (Founder/CEO, Hydroplane, Associate Professor, USC Viterbi School of Engineering) will leverage her extensive experience in ground, air, and space travel to illuminate the particulars of these promising new forms of transportation, and we will learn where the most likely advancements may impact our daily commute.

Since the Ventura County Chapter is new, the meeting is free for all. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfvcsep21.eventbrite.com.

From Space Science to the Emerging Space Economy: A Personal Journey

Ventura County Chapter virtual meeting on August 26

Please join us online Thursday, August 26, 8:00–9:00am PST when Dr. Leon Alkalai (CEO Mandala Space Ventures, LLC, CEO, Continuum Space Systems, Inc., GP, Explorer 1 Venture Fund) will present a personal journey from a career dedicated to robotic space exploration and space science at NASA’s JPL, into the exciting world of space entrepreneurship.

We are in the early stages of a lasting revolution in space commercialization and democratization. Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) is the immediate and obvious destination for space commercialization, as evidenced by the plethora of applications.

There is also plenty of opportunities in the emerging Lunar and cis-Lunar economy including in-situ resource prospecting and utilization, human habitation, and long-term utilization of the Moon for both research and economic development.

What is very encouraging is that there is a growing ecosystem of entrepreneurs launching new start-ups that are disrupting the existing marketplace and creating new opportunities for all interested in space. Furthermore, the scale of venture capital fueling innovation and entrepreneurship into the marketplace is stimulating growth and exuberance at the same time. This new generation of space pioneers is both excited about making a difference in space and improving the quality of living on planet Earth for all of humanity.

Since the Ventura County Chapter is new, the meeting is free for all. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfvcaug21.eventbrite.com.
