“What keeps the OEMs & Tiers up at night? Verify surveyed the A&D Industry and found out.”

“What keeps the OEMs & Tiers up at night?
Verify surveyed the A&D Industry and found out.”

OC Chapter meeting in Irvine on December 6

Verify, the pioneer and world’s leading provider of Supplier Performance Management (SPM) solutions, will be publishing a white paper on the current state and future challenges facing the A&D supply chain and previewing it at the OC A&D Forum Dec 6th meeting.

Given that Verify partners with over 400 A&D customers and provides support solutions at over 7,000 supplier locations in 53 countries, the white paper will be based on extensive surveys and interviews across every level of the global supply chain.

The Verify Team distilled the white paper to several mission critical topics:
• How do customers and suppliers truly rate their relationship with each other?
• Cybersecurity – beyond IT, the vast majority of the Defense Supply-Chain is non-compliant. What level of access to Operational, Quality and Compliance data will the Gov’t mandate? Will the OEMs police performance and compliance of the Tiers or will the Gov’t want direct access?
• Which competencies should the Supply-Chain invest in over the next 3-years? Will current competences satisfy future obligations?
• Which of the current challenges facing the supply chain has the most negative impact on operational performance?

Please join us in Irvine on Thursday, December 6, 7:30–9:00am, when Verify President, Alan McIntosh will be reviewing data and conclusion from the white paper and Verify will field a panel of subject matter experts to address, answer questions, and find solutions on some of the significant challenges facing our industry over the next 3+ years.

The meeting is free for members & $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until November 29). Non-members may guest twice for free. Click here to register to attend the meeting.

Tour of Vanderhorst Brothers

Tour of Vanderhorst Brothers

San Fernando Valley Chapter meeting on November 15

Meeting Location: Vanderhorst Brothers, Inc.
1715 Surveyor Ave., Simi Valley, CA 93063
(805) 583-3333
Meeting Date: Thursday, November 15, 2018
Meeting Time:
7:00-7:30am: Check-in & Breakfast
7:30-9:00am: Meeting & Tour

Vanderhorst Brothers is a precision machining shop in Simi Valley. In 2008 they decided that they needed to do what few were doing at the time – lights out machining. That year they purchased nearly 3 million dollars in equipment. Brian O’Rell, owner and president, said, “It nearly buried us, but we made it through and are starting to see the fruits of our labor.”

Please join us in Simi Valley, CA, on Thursday, November 15, 7:30am–9:00am, when we will see the extensive equipment and inventions to enable lights-out operation and to enable growth without associated growth in “touches.” For example, there are machines and pallets that enable different parts to be sequentially machined without human intervention, as well as Raptor Workholding (see below).

Today Vanderhorst Brothers, Inc. is housed in a 22,000 sq. ft. building nestled in the heart of Simi Valley where it has been located for the last 15 years. In keeping with Brian’s commitment to the company’s technological development, machine inventory is constantly being updated and today boasts state of the art machinery, including a fast growing EDM department.

Two years ago they purchased the building behind Vanderhorst in anticipation of growth, and are just now taking over half the building, which will double their manufacturing space.

Vanderhorst Brothers is anticipating a 25 percent growth in 2019.

The meeting is free for members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until November 8). For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsfvnov18.eventbrite.com.

“Post-Election Update: What it means for the Economy and for the Aerospace and Defense Industry”

“Post-Election Update: What it means for the Economy and for the Aerospace and Defense Industry”

San Diego Chapter meeting on November 14

Now that the elections are over (and the House is controlled by___???) and President Donald Trump has signed the Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in August….what does this mean and how might this affect the A&D industry as a whole and San Diego in particular?

Please join us on Wednesday, November 14th as DeAnne Steele, Managing Director and Head of the National Portfolio Management and Consultancy Practice at U. S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management helps guide us through the landscape of 2019 and beyond.

The Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) cleared the path for a host of Navy and Marine Corps programs and policy initiatives to take effect. The FY 2019 NDAA sets the spending and policy priorities for the Department of Defense. A separate appropriations process will provide the money for the Pentagon’s now authorized $717 billion-worth of programs.

The meeting is free for members & $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until November 7). For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsdnov18.eventbrite.com.

“F-35 Production – Advanced Manufacturing and the Digital Thread”

“F-35 Production – Advanced Manufacturing and the Digital Thread”

DFW Chapter meeting in Fort Worth on November 8

Location: University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute (UTARI)
Address: 7300 Jack Newell Blvd S, Fort Worth, TX 76118
Date: Thursday, November 8
Time: Registration, Breakfast & Networking: 7:00-7:30 a.m.
Meeting: 7:30-9:00 a.m.

Advanced manufacturing of complex products such as the F-35 is becoming a series of data-driven events, commonly referred to as the digital thread: a single, seamless strand of data that stretches from the initial design concept to the finished product. This thread enables the flow of data throughout the manufacturing process, including design concept, modeling, build plan monitoring, quality assurance, the build process itself, and post-production monitoring and inspection.

Please join us on Thursday, November 8, 7:30-9:00am when Dr. Don Kinard, Senior Fellow, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Production Operation, will discuss how the ability to dissect, understand, and apply the potentially massive amounts of data and intense computing demands within the digital thread allows users to enhance and scale their manufacturing capabilities and manage the complexities of production

The meeting is free for A&D Forum members ($30 Early Bird for non-members until November 1, $40 thereafter). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to https://adfdfwnov18.eventbrite.com.

“Tax Reform Implications for the Aerospace & Defense Industry”

“Tax Reform Implications for the Aerospace & Defense Industry”

OC Chapter meeting in Irvine on November 1

Please join us in Irvine on Thursday, November 1, 7:30–9:00am, when Peter Henderson, CPA (Senior Manager, Tax Credits and Incentives), Matt Luzar, CPA (Tax Senior Manager), and Fredrick Chang, CPA (International Tax Senior Manager), all from Moss Adams, will discuss the major impact that the recent Trump tax reform is having on the aerospace & defense industry. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) passed earlier this year represents the most significant tax reform since 1986. It has both positive and negative implications on the A&D industry in such areas as: transactions and valuations; domestic and international operations; and overall profitability. It is key for companies to fully understand the impact of these changes.

The meeting is free for members & $30 for non-members. Non-members may guest twice for free. Click here to register to attend the meeting.

Los Angeles Chapter meeting on November 16

NOTE: New building security policy. All attendees must register no less than 24 hours in advance of the meeting or they will not be allowed entrance to the building.

Building an effective IT security program can be overwhelming. Many standards and requirements exist. Sometimes, the choices can come down to choosing between complying with requirements rather than implementing solid security controls.

Join us at Century City on Friday, November 16, 7:30–9:00am, when John Stambelos (Principal of Stambelos Consulting, LLC) and Asher Dahan (CEO of Block Ransomware) will take you through the process of creating the core components for an effective information security program. They’ll touch on risk assessment, ransomware, vulnerability management, physical security, asset management, business continuity and incident response, among other topics.

When you leave this session, you’ll be able to determine the key parts of a security program that help your company stay secure.

The meeting is free for members & $30 for non-members ($40 after November 9). For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adflanov18.eventbrite.com.

“Shifting Investment Landscape for A&D Companies in the Lower-Middle-Market”

“Shifting Investment Landscape for A&D Companies in the Lower-Middle-Market”

AZ Chapter meeting in Phoenix on October 25

Meeting location: Spencer Fane LLP
2415 E Camelback Road, Suite 600, Phoenix, AZ 85016-4288
Meeting Date: Thursday, October 25, 2018
Meeting Time:
11:00-11:30am: Registration & Networking
11:30am-1:00pm: Lunch & Meeting

For the last 10+ years, the aerospace industry has attracted great interest from many investors, including private equity and strategic buyers. The level of competition for “clean” companies of size has intensified and the possibility to achieve attractive returns has become more challenging. This has created significant opportunity for individual investors who are willing to pursue smaller, more challenging deals that include significant risk and uncertainty, but not necessarily significant capital.

In this presentation, Tim Grein, President & CEO, WALBAR Engine Components,
will discuss his personal transition from Strategic Buyer, to an aerospace-focused PE fund and ultimately to operating WALBAR Engine Components, an independent manufacturer of aerospace engine components

The meeting is free for members ($30 for non-members). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to http://adfazoct18.eventbrite.com.
