“United States Space Force: What does it mean for the Market?”

“United States Space Force: What does it mean for the Market?”

AZ Chapter meeting in Phoenix on September 28

Meeting location: Spencer Fane LLP
2415 E Camelback Road, Suite 600, Phoenix, AZ 85016-4288
Meeting Date: Friday, September 28, 2018
Meeting Time:
8:00-8:30am: Registration, Networking, Breakfast
8:30-10:00am: Meeting

Please join us on Friday, September 28, 8-10am when Benjamin Hernandez, CoFounder of the Arizona Spaceport Alliance, will explore the real-world complications inherent within the development of a Space Force, and what it could mean for the aerospace market.

America appears to endorse the development of a United States Space Force to complement the existing military branches, but do they know what they are supporting? From the seasoned DOD analyst, to the opinionated pundit, to the grizzled science fiction author, theories on what is realistic vary from the current state of UAVs to the futuristic elite corps of space soldiers.

In this presentation, Benjamin will discuss the Who, What, When, Where, and most importantly the Why, of a Space Force that appears to be more fiction than reality. And, what it may mean for an aerospace market that will have to make decisions and react no matter the ultimate decision.

The meeting is free for members ($30 for non-members until September 21, $40 thereafter). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to http://adfazsep18.eventbrite.com.

Developments in Additive Manufacturing

Developments in Additive Manufacturing

DFW Chapter meeting in Fort Worth on September 13

Location: University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute (UTARI)
Address: 7300 Jack Newell Blvd S, Fort Worth, TX 76118
Date: Thursday, September 13
Time: Registration, Breakfast & Networking: 7:00-7:30 a.m.
Meeting & Tour: 7:30-9:00 a.m.

Additive manufacturing – the industrial version of 3-D printing – has been used for a while to make niche, low volume items, such as medical implants, and to produce plastic prototypes for engineers and designers.

But more and more industries such as aerospace are using the technology to mass-produce larger, higher volume and mission critical parts. For example, GE is now using the technology to manufacture fuel nozzles for its aircraft engines, a critical metal-alloy part to be used in thousands of jet engines.

These types of applications are a significant milestone for the technology. And while 3-D printing for consumers and small entrepreneurs has received a great deal of publicity, it is in manufacturing where the technology could have its most significant commercial impact.

Please join us on Thursday, September 13, 7:30-9:00am when Kelly Knake and Sam Hockaday of Impac Systems Engineering will discuss this impact.

The meeting is free for A&D Forum members ($30 Early Bird for non-members until September 6, $40 thereafter). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to https://adfdfwsep18.eventbrite.com.

Tour of Systems Technology

Tour of Systems Technology

South Bay Chapter meeting in Hawthorne on September 12

Agenda

7:15 – 7:30am Arrival, Networking, Meeting
7:30 – 7:40am Greeting and Introductions
7:40 – 9:00am Presentations and Tour:
• Introduction – Sanjeev Weerasuriya, CEO

o Engineering Services
o “Driving” Simulator
o Parachute Simulator
o Virtual Realty

More than 60 years ago, two men who literally wrote the book on aircraft dynamics and automatic control (McRuer and Ashkenas) executed their vision which was to become Systems Technology, Inc. (STI). Welcome to the world of STI, where complex dynamic systems and human operators intersect. STI is a technology company that develops engineering solutions and simulation products for complex moving machines and the humans that control them, from fixed-wing aircraft to rotorcraft, space vehicles to lighter than air, submarines to automobiles, which bridge the gap between engineering and human factors.

During the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the sensation of jumping out of an airplane and free falling through the air before deploying the canopy and gliding down to the targeted landing location in our Parasim parachute simulator. Or perhaps, enjoy the thrill of piloting an F-18 Super Hornet to a successful carrier landing in the STI McFadden flight simulator. Lastly, you can test your motor skills with a trip around the block in our STISIM Driving Simulator.

Don’t miss the opportunity to come and learn about the innovative simulation technologies and aerospace engineering services that Systems Technology, Inc. has to offer.

Free for A&D Forum members (exclusive access until August 29), $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until September 5). For more information and to register to attend go to http://adfsbsep18.eventbrite.com.

Farnborough 2018 International Airshow: Impressions & Opinions

“Farnborough 2018 International Airshow: Impressions & Opinions”

San Fernando Valley Chapter meeting on August 21

Meeting Location: City National Bank
15260 Ventura Blvd., 16th floor, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
Meeting Date: August 21
Meeting Time: Doors open at 7am, Meeting 7:30-9:00am

Farnborough 2018 is the first major industry event since Airbus and Boeing shook up the industry by agreeing to absorb key commercial programs of smaller rivals Canada’s Bombardier and Brazil’s Embraer as they prepare for future competition from China.

The changing dynamics in the industry, including many recent M&A/consolidation deals, was the leading topic at the show, but not the only one. Higher oil prices, rising interest rates, global trade tensions and uncertainty over Brexit all raised concerns that demand for new aircraft would slow, but that was not the case.

Other major topics at Farnborough this year, besides record aircraft orders, included a market study on value of the global aerospace & defense market, releases of several OEM market studies, the implications / concerns caused by recent harsh US political rhetoric and tariffs, the potential of aftermarket services, and the future of European military plans.

But the real questions are, “Why go to the one of the largest Air Show’s in the world?” What can you get out of an Air Show that helps your business? Is the cost of attending worth the expense? What does this all mean for the A&D industry?

Please join us in Sherman Oaks, CA, on Tuesday, August 21, 7:30–9:00am, when David Conrad, Director Business Development, PTI Technologies, who attended Farnborough 2018 and many past shows, will address these and other questions.

The meeting is free for members and $30 Early Bird for non-members until August 14 ($40 thereafter). Guests may attend twice for free. For more information and to register to attend the meeting go to http://adfsfvaug18.eventbrite.com.
