“Getting Up Close and Personal – Tales of Water/Waste Systems”Lavatory Door with question mark
A Tour of Zodiac Water & Waste Aero Systems

Aerospace & Defense Forum Meeting in Carson, CA on September 14

Farnborough 2016 International Airshow: Impressions & Opinions

“Farnborough 2016 International Airshow: Impressions & Opinions”120713-FarnAirshow-AIR-PMW-020

Aerospace & Defense Forum Meeting in Torrance, CA on August 10

Expectations for Farnborough 2016 were limited – Brexit had passed, and despite dire predictions the UK will not flow away into the Atlantic; New Orders were not expected to be as robust as prior years; Key areas of discussion are expected to include the shortage of pilots, data requirements for airframes, and aircraft tracking.

Come and hear first-hand accounts from visitors who attended the Air Show.

The show featured the Airbus A350 XWB, the Boeing 737MAX and Lockheed’s F-35B Lighting II. But the real question is, “Why go to the largest Air Show in the world?” What can one get out of the Air Show that helps your organization? Is the cost of attending worth the expense?

Please join us in Torrance on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, 7:30am – 9:00am PDT (networking at 7:00am), when David Conrad (Zodiac Aerospace Water & Waste), Trevor T. Bohn (Salem Partners) and David Patterson (Moderator) (Aerospace Manufacturing & Engineering) will address these and other questions.

Attendance is open to all. The meeting is free for A&D Forum members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until August 3). Advanced registration is required. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to http://adfsbaug16.eventbrite.com.

“Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing: State of the Industry”

“Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing: State of the Industry”The Future of 3D Printing

South Bay (CA) Chapter meeting on March 9

Since its inception in 1986, additive manufacturing has been changing the way in which people think about manufacturing. Traditional manufacturing is of course alive and well; in fact, it is a very necessary element despite all of the hype surrounding the additive technologies. That being said, the additive space will define manufacturing in the future.

3D Printing, as it is now commonly called, is a very fluid sector. Between the newer technologies and the fact that many of the older patents are now expiring, we expect to see even greater diversity in the marketplace.

Please join us in Torrance on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, 7:30am – 9:00am PDT (networking at 7:00am), when three experts on 3D printing from SoCal Office Technologies will present an overview of the Additive marketplace. They will cover current processes, materials and aerospace applications as well as look at future potentials. They will also highlight the unique opportunities additive manufacturing brings to the table in terms of manufacturing and design.

Attendance is open to all. The meeting is free for A&D Forum members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until March 2). Advanced registration is required. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to http://adfsbmar16.eventbrite.com.

“Radically Reducing the Cost of Assemblies”

“Radically Reducing the Cost of Assemblies”mind_the_gap-logo

South Bay (CA) Chapter meeting on February 10

For over twenty years, Aerojet Rocketdyne has endeavored to change the fundamental way of thinking about product design and production in our industry. When combined with other techniques such as Design to Cost and Advanced Manufacturing, a new integrated design capability emerges that promises to produce simplified, more rapidly developed, affordable assembled products. This new approach applies the concepts (and benefits) of lean manufacturing (typically limited to part fabrication) to the level of assembly.

Please join us in Torrance on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, 7:30am – 9:00am PDT (networking at 7:00am), when Art Weiss, former Executive Director, Defense Advanced Programs, Aerojet Rocketdyne, will present this new way of thinking about systems and design that can have a dramatic impact on the costs, delivery time, and reliability of assemblies.

Attendance is open to all. The meeting is free for A&D Forum members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until February 3). Advanced registration is required. For more information and to register to attend the meeting, go to http://adfsbfeb16.eventbrite.com.

The A&D market over the last thirty to forty years has been very dynamic with many changes in structure, companies and business models. The panel will also share some observations about how the market is changing and the need for sales and marketing to adapt and change.

We anticipate a lively, valuable and interactive exchange between panelists and between the panel and attendees. If you are in sales & marketing, this is an event not to be missed!

Attendance is open to all. The meeting is free for A&D Forum members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until January 6). Advanced registration is required. “Creating Competitive Advantage through Your Supply Chain”

“Creating Competitive Advantage through Your Supply Chain”The_Value_Chain-Creating_Competitive_Advantage

South Bay (CA) Chapter September 10 meeting

In recent years, the aerospace markets for both commercial and military products have become more and more competitive. With industry consolidation and few new aircraft being launched this trend is becoming ever more prevalent.

Most companies have reacted to these challenges by initiating continuous improvement activities focused largely on leaning out production operations and reducing direct labor product content. Businesses who have embraced lean initiative for many years are finding diminishing returns from this approach. In many cases this activity has been accomplished by the outsourcing of non-core operations and work content, reducing the internal production base.

Given this situation, many companies have realized they must redirect their attention to creating value through enhanced supply chain efficiencies. Ducommun is in the midst of such a supply chain transformation.

Please join us in Torrance, CA, on Thursday, September 10, 2015, 7:30am – 9:00am PDT (networking at 7:00am), when Joel Benkie (President & COO) and Jerry Redondo (VP of Operational Excellence) of Ducommun share some key aspect of their strategy and approach.

Attendance is limited to the #1 or #2 operating executives of A&D companies or plants, i.e., organizations that have a direct role in production, e.g., engineering, fabrication, coating, and testing. Likewise, to promote exchange, each meeting is limited to 20 attendees.

The meeting is free for A&D Forum members and $40 for non-members ($30 Early Bird until September 3). Advanced registration is required. or more information and to register to attend the meeting or for the waitlist, go to http://adfsbsep15.eventbrite.com.
